FAQ

Company setup & work permits for foreign founders

Can I register a company in China as a foreigner?

Yes — most foreign founders set up a wholly foreign-owned enterprise (WFOE), which keeps 100% ownership in your hands. The sequence is: name approval, registered address, capital declaration, business license (usually 3–5 working days), then the corporate bank account and tax registration.

Once the company exists it becomes your employer, which is what makes the work permit possible. See how to register your company in China →

Do I need a Chinese partner or local shareholder?

No. A WFOE lets you hold the company alone in most sectors. Only a few industries on the negative list require a local partner or a different structure — we check your industry against the list before you spend anything.

Can I get a China work permit through my own company?

Yes. Your own company applies for the Notification of Work Permit on your behalf (roughly 20 working days), and the permit is graded A, B, or C by your qualifications and salary. If you are abroad you enter on a Z visa first; if you are already in China the residence permit is arranged after the permit is issued.
